Your MRI Scan:

Although MRI is a very advanced medical technique, the MRI exam is probably one of the easiest and most comfortable exams you will ever experience. If you have any questions or anxiety about having a scan, we encourage our patients to come and take a look at our MRI scanners before your exam, bring a friend or family member with you. With proper safety screening, any family member or friend may enter the room with the patient to make them feel more comfortable during the scan.

We suggest wearing comfortable clothing and avoid wearing jewelry or make-up when having a scan of the head and neck as metallic objects may interfere with the accuracy of the film image. Please feel free to ask any questions related to your exam and let the Technologist know if you would like an eye pillow, made available to anyone with anxiety or claustrophobia.

The Technologist will simply ask you to lie down on a cushioned table that will move inside the MRI unit after you have been comfortably positioned for scanning. You will be provided with a set of headphones to listen to your favorite music and minimize the noise. We encourage you to bring along your own CD with your favorite music. The Technologist will be in contact with you communicating throughout the entire exam.

When the MRI begins, you will hear a muffled thumping sound which will last for several minutes. Please hold very still during the exam to prevent any motion results on the images.

Other than sound, you should experience no other sensation during the scanning. When the exam is complete, the Technologist will re-enter the room to assist you off the table.

Multi-Slice CT Scans

Weymouth MRI uses a high resolution CT scanner at our Weymouth location only. This multi-slice Technology delivers high quality total multi-planar body scans, angiography, 3D reformatting, lung and total body cancer screening. With a wide circumference, our CT scanner can accommodate up to 400 pounds and provide a comfortable experience.

Your CT Scan:

The average appointment time for most scans is usually from 15 to 30 minutes. Abdominal scans require a 90 minute early arrival to allow for preparation.

You may be asked to fast four hours prior to your scan. A contrast IV injection may be required for the scan. It is normal to feel a warm sensation, from the injection, as the contrast makes its way through the body. This substance is given in order to highlight various body parts and gets eliminated from your body in a 24 - 48 hour period.

Dental Scans

A dental scan is a CT scan of your upper and/or lower jaw to show your dentist where to place your implants to help prevent complications. The scan results are used with the "Simplant" or "Nobel Guide" software whichever is used by your Dentist. For further information or questions visit our FAQ's on Dental Scans.

Special Note:
Dental scans are a technical service only, they do not include a radiological interpretation. Dental implants are recognized by medical insurance companies as cosmetic procedures in nature and they are not generally covered by standard medical insurance or Medicare. Please call our office for payment arrangements before the scheduled procedure.

Digital X-Ray

Weymouth MRI offers complete x-ray capabilities.  Our digital x-ray units consistently produce high quality images while using a considerably lower amount of radiation exposure. Digitized images are sent electronically via the internet to our PACS system where they can be viewed and dictated by our Radiologists and the results viewed by your Physician in the comfort of his/her office.

Portable Fluoroscopy

C-Arm fluoroscopy is another option made available primarily for arthroscopic studies of various joints in the body. It is performed under the guidance of our Radiologist and used to aid in the MRI or CT diagnostic process of certain conditions related to the shoulders, knees, elbows and wrists..
